I tried to contact the band directly about using a song I patched over a video to cover up the extreme vibration noise, and wanted to post it to youtube. I was informed they don't own the rights to it and to contact Sony for copyright permission and BMI Music for a video sync license. I found both their contact pages on their websites and will pitch the idea in phone calls tomorrow. If they can be persuaded to allow me the use in the video, they might even want to put up an I-Tunes link to buy the song. I've seen that on a few videos that looked like private (non-commercial) uploads.

If I get lucky I'll post the link...

If anyone else has video, share some links. I can't find any from Blair's Formula Mazda on my card. Gotta be a few out there who have footage they took...

woah didn't know you caught fire Don? what let go fuel line or did the filler tube come out of the tank?

hope the car is in decent shape still.

Edit: Just read the description the old man has a spare carb if you need one it's the eurpoean version so it's flipped compared to the NA version but we have been running it no prob just have to re-route the throttle cable a little.

good to see you got out quick.

Thanks bud. The camera did most of the work. lol I'm building a rubberized mount that will bolt to the rollbar. Then the camera will bolt to the rubber mount separately. Should cut ALL vibration, so we'll see how that works next year. Might even fashion a tiny wing element to cover the camera and cut wind noise.

Yep, and it taught me why we wear 4 layers. The pressed in brass fuel fitting pulled out of the carb body. I plan on tapping that hole for a threaded fitting and going to steel braided line. I haven't gone out to the garage since I got home. Drove straight home after the event and didn't sleep until Sunday night. Back to work Monday. Was a rough week. lol Finally rested up a bit now and might wander out there tomorrow to see how bad the old girl looks. But I'm not quitting yet.

update: The car damage is minimal, considering.

The belts look ok. Some hoses are toast. Only a small amount of wiring burned. Plug wires ok. Carb body ok, with air filter just slightly melted on one edge. (see the brass fitting in the fuel hose?) The worst damage seems to be the underside of the engine cover. She got pretty warm under there. Damn lucky in many ways though.
