john's wuste checklist:
1. buy a cell phone that works, has minutes, and battery
2. buy a GPS made in the last 3 years, with updated maps
3. disable the parking brake on your porsche, and set the cruise control to 70mph
4. install a lift kit and mud tires in case you find a highway that turns into a dirt road again

I'm working on the suggestions. New maps for Porsche on order from bittorrent Porsche has cruise control and have worked out how to use it. Checked car will do 75 mph. Cell phone has plenty of credit but you should buy a US sim card as it'll still be expensive phoning a Canadian number for me. Will look at a new pair of motorola radios.

Can I get an American sim without signing a contract? I will go through a lot of data this year. I'm driving to San Fran for may 21 till 23 for the makers fair and during the trip one of my robots will have Internet access through my phone to upload photos of his trip. The new ai I just finished recognizes and likes colors and shapes and motion. He will take pics and upload them to his site so ppl can see what a robot sees on vacation.

Yes you can. I'm with T-mobile on a prepay monthly plan. $30 buys you a phone and a sim without a contract. If you look on their website you can get just the sim for free!

For $30 a month I get 1500 minutes or text anytime within USA. Can receive international texts and calls (comes out of the same pot ot minutes). I only pay additional costs for sending international texts or calls. That includes 30MB of data (enough for what I use it for). Of course there are plenty of other plans and providers.
