  • Race City Last Leg support night

    http://cscc.speedracer.ca/forums/in...pic,9162.0.html

The Calgary Motorsports Association has arranged an evening of "Show them what we do" night at Race City on Friday Sept 25th starting at 6:00pm. We are asking that any and all groups, racers, clubs and businesses come step up a display of cars and such to show the media and possibly city Councillors' what Race City is all about and why it is important to you and the City.

As many of you know, Alderman McIver has entered a new motion to council to extend the lease to at least 2015 and see the lease through as written to 2025.

This Secret Street night will feature the Edmonton Police Service Drag team and hopefully some representation from Calgary Police Service.

We encourage everyone to come down and show off your motorsport and help the track maintain the lease. This will be the last hurrah and this council decision will decide the final outcome of track motorsports in Calgary. Bring your car and or set up a business display.

PLease remember this is a Secret Street night, so there is a charge of $25.00 to
race and a $5.00 entry fee to spectators. Please be prepared to pay to enter.

PLease make the effort to support Alderman McIver and represent your sport, for aracer I can't think of anything more important at this time in Calgary to do on that Friday night.

Please pass this email to your members and others that you consider would benefit thesport. If the City does not extend the lease, then this will help prove to the city and media thatthis sport matters in Calgary and may force the city in helping provide something new.

Alderman McIver has gone to bat for us, we as a group need to show him and the City that we take our sport seriously. PLEASE SHOW UP!

You're right. Political ******** got in the way. The fire department showed up though, which was really nice.

There was a sick (what I believe to be) full-caged R32 that showed up. Wow wee!

Yeah georges r32 was there. Along with a few others.

There were a couple different reasons i heard for not having the cops there racing. And if any officer "handed out a ticket at race city, they should consider themselves fired" was what i heard.

                A. We would then know if we could outrun them or not, judging by quarter mile times.
                B. So no tickets would be handed out for existing offences, so there would be as many people as possible.

                    those are all weaksauce reasons.

If the reason behind B. is because there are people there that have had tickets in the past and the cops might know them, if the police do not have the professionalism to seperate situations then they shouldn't be cops.

I can understand not wanting to hand out tickets at RC due to illegal modifications and ticketing at the gate or the roads in and out of the place...but really its no excuse for not showing up.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what cruisers run in the 1/4mile. They dont have any engine modifications to the standard cruisers, and even highway patrol cars with modifications....if you use google you can find out what the standard police modification is to cars, none of which will catch any heavily modified car. Not that any of that matters, because trying to outrun cops never works, radio and helicopter will own you any day of the week. Ask any of us who have done leavenworth how we know.

I think they didn't show up because it showed a public service of the city taking sides in a what is going to become very public issue. It looks bad on city hall when you have city services choosing sides. It's BS, but is a much more plausible explaination than the ones offered above.
