  • New motorsports facility?

Posted from Jay in another forum...

"This is a project I have been working on since 2005. Finally we are able to release information to the public about it.

    http://badlandsmotorsportsresort.com/

Many have heard about it, although there is alot of information on the website that should shed some light to the rumors.

At the WCMA AGM i gave a brief update as to the status of the project.

As discussed, we did present the project to the citizens of Kneehill and Wheatland county on Sunday Nov 2nd and Tuesday Nov 4th. I am very pleased with the publics acceptance. As expected, noise is a cause for concern to the citizens in the nearby town of Rosebud, AB (which actually is NOT in the county that we are applying for the Direct Control District in).

However, it was the general sentiment that if we show them that they won't be adversely affected by noise, we had a very high level of support based on all benefits it would bring the region.

Our 3D CAD sound model has shown that a typical day would result in a Leq dBA of 19 at Rosebud (i.e. it would be inaudible). It is likely that the residents will want a more hands on demonstration rather than a computer model before they will be entirely convinced, and we will be happy to oblige.

All of the information presented at the meetings can be seen on our website under the project heading:

IN the FAQ section (http://badlandsmotorsportsresort.com/faq.php) there is quite a bit of information that may be of interest specifically to the motorsports community."

amazing idea. I hope this project fairs better than the track resort proposed in merrit over 6 years ago, that has still not progressed.

Now I wonder given the cureent market climate, whether a project like this is still viable?

That sounds like a really big project. Hopefully everything works out. If it ends up being a world class facility, it might be able to host a leg of the Speed GT world championships or Speed touring championships......a man can dream right?

On a different note, if the Edmonton City Center airport closed, I would love to see that space turned into a race track. Even just a small portion of it being turned into a small road course would be really cool.

Only issue is they are planning on charging a similar amount to some of the new tracks out there like Calabogie in Ontario and Miller Motorsport park which for a day is around 15K way out of the reach of normal car clubs Race city is around 3-5K i believe. So we may have a track but it might be for the rich kids no grassroots. Also heard rumors of being able to buy memberships at the track for 5K for 3 years or something like that.

This is just what the old man told me as he was at the AGM a couple weekends ago.

It will still be years before anything is built.

Also my old man ran into Art a little while ago who said he still believes he has a valid lease until 2012 or whenever the original date was sounded like he wasn't going to hand over the track until something else was in place.
