AUTOBAHN, do you know what the drop is on that MkV GTI and what springs/shocks it is using? I'm looking into upgrading the suspension on mine

            crappy.
the idea was good but they were the worst roads my car was scraping on the crests and sink holes . dads car has some damage as well . cell phone range was soo bad we couldn't call people when they got lost because it happened we got really lost . none of the roads were on my nave so i had no map just written directions . turn out was great . but more main hwys would be nicer for my modified car next time .

The event has always featured country roads, straight highways are dull.
It is sad that you scraped, its sadder still that it ruined the event for you. Perhaps the saddest thing is that you have little recognition of the time and effort that has gone into planning both the event and the run. Four people had spent many hours and spent a fair bit of money to provide that afternoon of car guy fun.

This was my first eurodrivers meet/cruise, and i had a blast! Big thanks to everyone who planned/ran the event.

On a side note, my oilpan is 2.5 inches from the ground (black 1998 gti vr6) and i had no problems with any of the route. Main highways are boring, and the point of having a car is having the freedom to go wherever you want...dont change a thing for next year!

hey i was asked , what i thought of it . i was optimistic and was disappointed with the route . you don't think i know how much time goes into these events ?. please . im sorry the roads sucked but i talked to everyone in my group and we all agreed . roads sucked . there are many secondary roads that don't endanger my car that are perfect for driving and leading a large group on a leasurly cruise. dont make me out to be the bad guy .Does this mean you shouldn't attend next year hell no it was a great turn out thanks for organizing it . but maybe call it a almost rally .

This reply is absolutely DRIPPING with irony. First off I don't think what Chris said warranted such a rude reply, it was merely a suggestion. When you are catering to a club of modified cars quality of roads has to be taken into consideration.

Now the irony in your post is that you seem to have "little recognition" of the fact that Chris (Turbomeyers) organized and hosted easily the biggest and best euro meet of the year in Alberta. You may have heard ramblings about it on here, a little get together called "Euroquake". Now I do not know Chris personally but having attended his event I will absolutely be returning to it next year and every year following as long as he continues to organize it. I did not participate in the cruises at either event so I can't comment on that but Euroquake's meet was unbelievable. Chris as well as his family and staff (can't give him all the credit) organized parking for 130 cars outside of his shop, food and drink for participants and spectators, a dyno, a product demo, judging and trophies, as well as a cruise. A rather large undertaking in comparison to planning a route and telling everyone what parking lot to meet in.

Since Chris has already replied to your post I am guessing he is just too nice a guy to toot his own horn, but that needed to be said.

Re: Edmonton Euro end of summer 3!! Sept 7th 2pm

                      - I am familiar with "euroquake" and had spoken to Chris about it prior to the run, I also helped him find the rest of his group when they were lost.
                      - The event is not a eurodrivers event, rather it is an independant event planned, organized etc by myself (with no sponsorship and not meant to advertise anything). It is not meant to cater to modified cars, rather it is meant to cater to euro enthusiasts.
                      - Chris and most of his crew did not finish the run.
                      - The "road sucks", the cell phone service etc, cannot be considered constructive criticism.
-Its was meant and advertised as a run in the country... so that is what is was.

Nonetheless, I do not want to turn this into a "flame thread". This event has been run for three years on the same type of roads. Most knew what the route consisted of. As to planning, that route has been run myself 5 times at 110kms each (within the last month), so it was a comittment. The route was run on Saturday by Mr. Baker(Eurodrivers), Geofux( Edmonton Classic Sports Car Club) and Cokebear17 (Northern Alberta BMW Club) and Myself (Edmonton Classic Sports Car Club, Lotus Ltd, Rolls-Royce Owners Club)-Thanks for your help guys.

For Three years (1995-1998) I ran a Porsche Club (The Rennsport Registry) in Edmonton. I understand that ANY Event takes a large amount of commitment and time, I also understand that it is poor taste to slam someones event/"baby" in such a curt manner.

If you enjoyed the event, great. If not, don't come next year... its that simple.

im sorry you felt my opinion was to harm your event . i figured you could take the criticism like all of us do when planning something and build on it . i speak for all of the 6 cars i had brought to your event to support it . now i am reviewing the previous threads on here to find warnings of the roads . if i was forewarned about the condition i will be apologizing .

was asked ........i listened see above post of the best roads . so no apologizes for a comment on a few (meaning under 10 ish imo) potholes that can be avoided ................ i had no warning of sink holes or lots of potholes and stock 18inch bmw wheels on a stock ride height car are fine but three piece forged 19s and 20s on hammered eurodrivers cars need a bit more tender driving surfaces , i would love to attend your event next year but take the critisim when you post on a modified euro forum that some modified euros might show up. sucked may have been a crappy choice ...... not nice pot hole riddled deteriorating surfaced roads .... mabey better

                              Thanks,

I appreciate the time you put in going through the posts, my response may have been heighted by one of your earliest (now edited) posts. In saying "best" I was refering to driving, not condition of surface. I had refered to the pavement where you scraped as "vintage" (wording was caution vintage pavement) in the course notes - perhaps that was too mild. Sucked was a crappy choice, though honestly, the fact is was communicated via forum probably contributed - had we been talking to each other in person, I am sure that inflection/mannerisms would have shown "sucked" just to be a figure of speech, not a criticism.

As a side note, the stock wheels on my wifes M are 17"s, the 18"s were aftermarket, badged to look stock - but agreed they are not a fragile as 3 piece forged rims.

Regardless, I'll take it as a lesson learned - I cannot expect lowered cars to run the same roads that my SL and 750 had run without problem... Noted.
