2007 CSCC Autoslalom/Solo School
The Calgary Sports Car Club is holding its annual Autoslalom School (nee Solo 2), May 23 & 24. Registration is now open on www.karelo.com
Classroom Session: Wednesday May 23, 7:00pm at the CSCC Clubhouse, 4215 - 80 Ave NE, Calgary
Track Session: Thursday, May 24, 5:30pm, at Race City Motorsports Park, 11550 - 68 St SE (68 St and 114 Ave), on the oval.
The autoslalom school is aimed at giving novices an introduction to the essentials of the sport, to better prepare them for success in autoslalom events. It is also popular with more experienced drivers as a refresher to start off the season.
The classroom session goes over the basics of what an autoslalom event is, how they are run, and what the participants role is (there's lots more than just driving!). The class covers topics like equipment and preparation, basics of car control and setup, and safety. Expect it to take 2.5 - 3hrs.
The track evening focuses on taking the theoretical knowledge, and seeing how it actually works where the rubber hits the road. Participants will first practice various elements typical of autocross courses one at a time, while an experienced autocross driver provides advice and coaching. Then later in the evening, students will put the separate elements together into a representative autocross course to practice their skills. Just like a real event, it's important to show up early and prepared, in order to make maximum use of the time.
