It's that time of year again, possibly the best time I have ever had in a car has been on this adventure and I look forward to it every year.
Once again I will be doing the Leavenworth trip, and will organize a cruise from Calgary to do it if people are interested in joining me. Last year TripleG came along and I am pretty sure he had a blast of a time.
For those that have done the cruise you know what to expect, for those who haven't it is one of the best drives you can go on, and depending on which pack of cars you choose to cruise with to the town itself, it can be one of the most scenic and relaxing drives you can take, or the closest thing to the gumball3000 without a $200,000 supercar and a $15,000 entry fee.
The OFFICIAL Cruise starts in Bellevue Washington down in the US and heads inland to a small german town called leavenworth. There is usually 350 cars that do the trip everything from a few aircooleds to twin turbo HPA monsters.
How our version of the cruise would work is a short drive to Vancouver on the Friday morning, drinking our faces off like rockstars that night, waking up hungover as tits at 6am and meeting the usually 70 car contingent from Vancouver that makes the trip down the I-5 to Bellevue. Again depending which group of cars you cruise with this can be a nice relaxing morning, or a more spirited run. The groups arrive in Bellevue at the meeting spot, have a walk around the cars (its a rolling car show) and have a drivers meeting. Depart for the 2hr drive to leavenworth through some of the coolest roads up the valley and a sprint up the mountain. Have lunch in Leavenworth and then go back. Crash Saturday night in Vancouver and then drive back Sunday.
Its a weekend of driving, but its a definite blast. I've done the last 4 years and could write a book about the adventures we have had. From cats, to cops, to helicopters and roadblocks, to cars catching on fire, this cruise has seen it all. Its like a trip to Mecca...everyone should do it at least once.
Let me know who is interested.
