home depot sells the stuff in 4x8 sheets for like 8 bucks.. then just cut and paint to what you need.. easy as pie..

ps. you can roll the sheet up so it'll fit in your trunk

Metal Supermarket sells it in whatever size of piece you need, and they have some different mesh sizes. Don't know about aluminum though. Steel or Stainless Steel might be better since you can powder coat, which is a bit better than paint for resisting scratches. Check Top Gun Coatings for powder coat.

Also with steel you can weld any brackets on you might need for mounting. Aluminum must be specific alloys to get a decent weld, and even then the mesh is pretty light, so it might just get blown away when striking an arc.
