I'm not sure on price but you can usually find VR6's around if you keep your eye open. there is different electronics on them though OBD1 and OBD2, not sure if there is a difference on ease of install or not, or wether there's advantages or disadvantages to either. Someone smarter than me can chime in on that.

The VR6 MK2 is one of my favorite modded cars good luck. Are you the guy with the red GTi that was at the meet last week? I was sitting to your left, I didn't really introduce myself, sorry for being a snob

I believe an OBD1 is easier to chip/tune (or at least it is with BMW). Key word there is" I think" though. Simon can probably chime in with the best answer here

OBD1's have a bit more power than IIs they can both be tuned the same way you will just get more gains out of a I generally, the main difference is in the valves I believe. A VR6 swap in a mk2 is super cool, I am not sure on cost exactly but you will have the main cost associated with getting the engine, which I dont think is too high, but the labour could be the big determining factor and perhaps how much you could do yourself or not.

OBDI is going to be easier to get up and running as there are less sensors etc that you will have to deal with. You can uses an ODBII and a SDS system and get nice results though. There is a MK1 with a turbo 2L swap in town that uses the SDS system and he said they had it up and running in a night. I would budget atleast $6k for the swap. I base that on the fact that mongomery auto is selling everything needed for a 1.8T swap for about $4k add labour + parts and you are looking at atleast $6k.

Oh ok. Montegomery is not always the cheapest place to deal with, especially if you're looking for something they consider "in demand". $7000? You could get a whole VR6 car with that much mileage for that much!! I know there is a place in BC you could look into as well (if I find the name of it i'll post it). Another really cool swap would be Bahn Brenners 16v G60 kit. You tell them if you have a 16V or a G60 motor and they provide the rest of the parts to make a 16v G60, I think that would be really cool, and since G60's are cheap to come by these days it would be cost effective.

Cost of a vr6 swap can be as much or little as you can imagine. Look hard enough(out of province?) find a decent vr6 motor, tranny, and underpinnings for a couple thousand $.Have some buddies help you do the swap over a weekend(s). Or pay a shop to source out the drivetrain and do the swap, which of course would be very expensive.

Last summer I was talking to a guy who had a very nice mk2 gti/vr6. According to him the swap cost roughly $14000. Mind you, he had the swap done at a vw speed shop in south B.C. (think he said R.P.I.) and everything was rebuilt.

In any case, a mk2 vr6 would be sweet. Def' one of the best swaps.

There is a g60 short block, which is built with all the goodies, for sale on the clubveedub site if your interested. Looks like a good deal.

Found this for those of you that may be interested, if it's everything he says it is that's a VERY good price, especially with full harness and cluster.
