  • WTB USB VAG-COM Cable

I think for some more serious, long term tuning I am going to finally need to break down and pick up my own cable.

I have no idea where the best place to get one is. As far as I know, they are all the same so no point buying from ross-tech at $250US. Honestly, for what the cable does, there is no way its worth that much.

I *need* USB since my Mac doesn't have Serial Ports. I should (in theory) be able to get Virtual PC running on the Mac so that I can run whatever software I feel like.

Does anyone have one of these or has anyone bought one and can tell me where I will get the best deal?

Whats the difference between VMWare and VirtualPC? I have VirtualPC installed (I think) but haven't looked at it yet.

      I emailed Martin @ sensolutions about getting a key-usb.

I hate to tell you Chris but you may have problems running Vag-com on a MAC anyways. I have read a couple posts about major timming issues etc. If you want I can bring a Key-USB to the meet and see if it works first, then I will see if that is ok with Martin. Let me know and I will ask him.

That would be nice, I could install windows tomorrow and then try it out through VirtualPC or VMWare on thursday...

If we can get it to log, I will probably pick it up on the spot. BTW, get me a price too I am assuming its worth my while to pick one up from sensolutions rather than just calling ross-tech, right?

It sure is saves on duty etc. You still get full registration/support from ross-tech too. I would try doing some research in the vag-com forums in the following groups yahoo/tdiclub/vortex and see what they say about MAC's. I read a couple threads awhile ago but can't remmeber what came of it.

                  Re: WTB USB VAG-COM Cable

Brent: I talked to Martin via e-mail, he answered a lot of my questions, and quoted me a price on one of the discontinued TWIN-USB interface cables that he has left. This seems like it would meet my needs fine, and its a bit cheaper, plus I can get it without a ross-tech license for now.

So if you do talk to him about bringing a cable out to a meet, bring that one, not the KEY-USB.

I'll buy it on the spot if we can make it work!

So what do you charge for the cables? I would like to be able to fart around with lemmiwinks on my car.

He also bought the Key-Pro which does fast logging (about 30 samples per second) on vehicles newer then 2002 and it is USB and serial in one.
