Re: Wtb: Ko4
Hi Sam,
I know you are new to VW's, the mk4 generation and specifically the 1.8t engines so i'd like to share a few things here with you.
1 - Make sure you get a K04-XXX for a transverse engine and not a longitudinal. They have different outlet orientations so if you want to keep your current downpipe and arrangement select the correct one
2 - Verify which model of K04-XXX you want to purchase. The K04-001 is the nearly direct replacement for the K03s which typically comes on these cars, so you can still make use of the stock manifold, oil and water lines, as well as discharge piping. The only thing that is slightly different is the inlet which is i believe just a mm or two larger in diameter so you will need a silicone TIP. However it doesn't produce as much power as the K04-02X models do, but you probably wouldn't be able to feel the slight difference anyways
3 - Read read read. Start here if you are thinking of going the K04 route, it should help answer some basic questions along with the supporting mods and tunes you can/should ideally run:

Re: Wtb: Ko4
Skip the K04 and buy a frankenturbo. Way better bang for your buck

Re: Wtb: Ko4
Frankenturbo or Gonzo K04's are completely different beasts than the OEM versions and should be pretty close price wise...
If you want a K03 to tide you over until you go big turbo then I can help with that - I'd vote for EFR 6758 or 7163 if you're going the big though.

Re: Wtb: Ko4
The only k04 thats worth it is the k04-02x and even that is quite a bit of work to install. Frankenturbo or gonzo turbo is better bang for your buck, however you will have to have it conservately tuned to keep from bending/snapping rods. 02x install is a lot of work for what you get, but shouldn't wreck rods. A well done 02x conversion should be good and reliable for a long time, and oem + is always a good bet.
