  • Wtb: Phatnoise set for B5 Passat

    Hi everyone.

We just bought a 2003 Passat a short time ago and since the CD changer isn't there anymore (doesn't matter too much anyway) I am looking for a Phatnoise system to plug instead of it since I am happy with the quality of the sound system from factory and not really planning to "hack it" to put a modern receiver.....

I was wondering if someone has one for sale, should be complete for me to be able to use it.

The Passat got a Symphony 6 radio on it (GLX model) with steering control if that help.

    Thanks.
    Jerome

I found one from a Jetta on ebay that I put in my Passat. Has worked very well. Worst part is loading music as the interface is oldskool USB and the data transfer rate sucks!
Phathack Media Manager worked well for me for PC software.

Thanks for the tip Stephan, I'll take a look for other model in that case.
Do you think the model found in Audi's would work too?

I think you'd be good to go for sure with MK4 jetta and golf. Not sure about audi. Look at page 10 here - you will need to configure to match your head unit.

Also, the thing is covered by a massive useless aluminum case that looks like an amp heatsink, but is just for show... If you take that off, the phatnoise innards fit nicely in to your CD changer hole. Pics to follow.

That is a nice doc, thanks.

Thanks again for the tip, I thought it will fit like that instead of the cd changer so I'll follow your advice because I really wanted to hide it in the changer hole.

            Hopefully, I'll get one soon.

There is an OEM install kit, but it involves cutting a hole in the door beside the cd changer tray so that the hard drive sticks out....

Found one on Ebay, should be here by month end.

Stephan, I'll do exactly like you did as I don't see the point cut a hole in the door. It is a wagon, it is made to be used to carry stuff.....

I also used the same high tech quality clamp to hold it , works really well!

                  Thanks again.

A lot of spare aluminum on that thing, eh?

Definitely, help a lot to make it looks good/strong.

I'll look if I can make something to close it, a box or something in the line..... or even cut the original cover.
