  • WTB: Throttle Body for '07 VW Jetta City 2.0L (MK4 body)

Anyone know where's the best place to buy a new or used throttle body for vw jetta MK4 (2007 Jetta city 2.0L)? Got it priced at $776 at the Gary Moe Volkswagen stealership (Red Deer), just for the part - no labor, so I'm now checking to see if anyone knows a decent place with a bit more reasonable price?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get to Calgary, PM Natty (Natty54). His prices on new OEM stuff is decent. Might even have some used options.

Sorry to go off topic but these are not very available. What is the reasoning for needing the throttle body?

EPC and Check Engine light turned on which made the car very sluggish, when trying to accelerate. The car is automatic and every time it tries to change from 1st to 2nd...3rd gear, the RPMs go almost to the red line before it switches to the next gear. Needless to say the car is very sluggish and when taken onto a highway the max speed it will go is 105km/h (floored).

From time to time the EPC/Check Engine lights will turn off and the car seams to ride without any issues, but lately the issue is constant. Had it checked out at one of the shops here in Red Deer and based on the code (sorry, can't remember the exact one) it was diagnosed that the throttle body needs to be replaced. They've also cleaned it out and tried to reset/clear the code - still no change.

Since they don't have VAG-COM I'm trying to get the part myself and find a decent shop that will be able to install it for me.

I'm sorry but if a shop doesn't have Vag-Com, their diagnosis should be taken with a grain of salt, it seems like a lot to spend on a part without a proper diagnosis. If you can get me the fault code numbers I can use some of my resources to check into if they are problematic.

I know of at least 3 euro shops in Red Deer that should be able to read the code correctly with their VagComs and let you know the actual issue. Das Auto, Mikasa and European Autoworks and specialize in Euro vehicles.

Also it's just a throttle body right? Why would you pay a shop to install this part for you? Isn't it right on top of the engine??

based on your description of the problem I would say that the issue is misdiagnosed and for you to save your money on the throttle body replacement. Take the car to a shop with a vagcom, One general fault on a normal scanner could be something very different on a vag com. A vag com would have told them many factors that a scanner would not such as throttle position and a mobile vag com would tell you exactly what is going on while the car is actually having the issue. where as a normal obd2 scanner is very limited on a vag car.
