    WTB donut spare from a VR6 MK3 Golf/Jetta or Passat (5x100)

    If you're parting your car or replaced your donut with a full spare I'm interested in your old donut spare. Has to be 5x100 (so it fits a mk4). It is my understanding that the 5 bolt pattern only came with the VR6 Mk3s and Passats.

    PS: before someone offers me their full spare, please note that the reason I want a donut is that it's lighter and takes up less space than a full spare. To us it's an issue as we use our VW for towing a pretty heavy trailer.

    Your best bet is pick and pull.

      Not a single suitable vehicle there (was there yesterday). In fact neither pnp locations had any such VWs. Anyone know of other cars that may be a match? I tried some donuts from a couple of jap cars but it didn't clear the brake pads or the hole in the centre wasn't big enough to fit a mk4. Going camping on Wednesday, hoping to locate a spare by then.

        Just a question, does the extra 20lbs a full size spare takes up really affect your towing capacity? If so then you might not want to tow anything just in case you pack a bit too much food in your trunk...

          You can borrow my spare for your trip if you want? I don't think I want to get rid of it all together though. From MK3 VR6

            www.car-parts.com you could easily find a wrecker in Alberta that has one I would think.

              Thanks for the offer, Mitch but I think I'll just bring the full spare along till I find a permanent one. Will just keep on hitting pnp for now. And yeah, every kilo counts. Not to mention the extra bit of free space. Counting beans beats buying some ugly-ass pickup truck or god forbid a damn minivan for the sake of towing a tent trailer.

                So, you want a donut spare because it takes up less space. So what if something does happen to one of your tires while towing that trailer? Are you going to throw the donut spare on and tow that heavy trailer with that? It's not meant to go over 80km/h and I'm sure it's probably not rated to have extra weight added to the vehicle. I'm not saying I know much about tires or physics, but this just doesn't make sense man. If that donut blows out while trying to pull your trailer you could have a serious accident and potentially wreck your car only to save yourself a few lbs and some space.

                Just my 2 cents. I would just pack the full spare for peace of mind, but to each their own.

                  You are absolutely correct: you know little about tires, physics and well, apparently not much about trailers either. If you did - instead of listing your personal take based on nothing but your own misguided opinion - you'd know that the total tongue weight of a tent trailer is typically in the 70kg range. That is less than the weight of most people. So if your logic had any merit, no passengers would be allowed in a vehicle while using a donut spare.

                    Sure bud, and when your car is in the ditch and the trailer behind it is splattered all over the highway I will drive by and shake my head of the fact that you decided to cut a corner in obviously the wrong area. You just clearly proved my point that when running a donut spare that you shouldn't be driving on a loaded vehicle. Clearly you think its a joke and find it funny when someone is trying to give you some advice. Go ahead an use a donut spare, I hope you prove me wrong and that I don't see your car come up on here to be parted out because you wrote it off attempting to pull a trailer.

                      Honestly you sound like a complete idiot.
                      IDGAF what the tongue weight is, if you are worried about a 10lb difference of weight in your car you have much much larger things to worry about. Take the full size spare and attach it to the rear of your stupid tent trailer. That way it acts as ballast for your precious 70kg tongue weight and you also have the 20lbs out of the trunk. Then you also have enough room to add 20lbs more **** to your trunk for your camping trip

                        And this is the reason why using forums can be so counter productive... why can't all the experts, know-it-all and wannabe saviours or the world just keep their paws off the keyboard when you're not able to offer a contribution the question posted? As I recall I posted this thread in search of a spare tire - instead I get all sorts of post hogs looking for an excuse to increase their count. But guess keeping that posting count is important to some people, so fire away, I'll just try to ignore them, although some are good for a laugh or two, as proven here. Wonder how much less clutter there'd on forums if no posts count was shown.

                        Dare I dream of a day when thread hijackers are a thing of the past.
