Thank you for the Spring Compressors MechEngg!
One thing. There is a nut on the top of the shock that holds it to the triangle shock housing. That thing is a ***** to get off...
This is from the DIY Im following

Theres an allen key for the shock tube, then a 19mm socket for nut. wtf.

That's where an impact is useful to remove the strut, then you need that strut tool to put it back together.

              Re: LF: Help with Coilovers

If you dont have the specific tool for it, you can try this and see if it works. Long allen key for the shock tube, 19mm deep socket grabbed at the top TIGHTLY with a pair of vice grips (put allen key through the opening of the socket obviously lol). It might put some nicks and scratches into your socket, but thats up to you if you care. To get the nut off, I recommend the impact gun, but dont try to tighten the nut with the impact gun cause you risk damaging the shock.

                Re: LF: Help with Coilovers

I know this pic is for a mk4 application but it can be applied to your situation. Very similar to what Pat posted above but using a 13/16 spark plug wrench and 24mm wrench to hold the socket instead of a 19mm socket a vice grips. The 13/16 vs 19mm is ~1mm off, not sure how loose it will feel but it may be worth a shot. If not just replace the parts in your mind with the ones that Pat suggested up top (with a small piece of rubber in between the socket and vice grips for added grip) and have at er.

                  Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Apparently when we were doing it last night we were tired and were doing it backwards. So tightening it... lmfao. No wonder why it didnt budge. . . *facepalm*
But we did the front today the other side was a breeeeeze. Also bought some spacers so my wheels can actually clear the calipers..
The rears go on tomorrow! Ive basically got all day devoted to it with a buddy. So it should be good!
On a positive (But actually kind of negative), my lip scraped off my driveway today. Its finally low enough to scrape something. Thats .. kind of a good sign?
I know this is a shitty picture.. but I went from having two fingers above my front tire to being about two fingers in? Also theres so much rake now (used to be plenty of reverse rake...)
Ive got about 1.75" of threads left. (two to the little ring after the threads) because I was thinking the springs will still compress a little for being new. Before I get my alignment i'll dial in the stance im looking for. As they are new Im hoping they will be super easy to adjust when in the car (So hoping that they'll be able to be adjusted by hand)

                    Re: LF: Help with Coilovers

                    So a quick little update.
Thank you to MechEngg for swinging by and lending a hand for the rears. They went surprisingly easy and smooth.
Until we tried fitment. The fronts still won't clear with a 20mm spacer. They hit the stupid ass calipers.
What are my options? Try a 25mm spacer? Grind down the caliper?
                    Anyone have any suggestions?

                      Re: LF: Help with Coilovers

A 25mm spacer is pretty big, be careful how much thread the bolts are getting spun on, if they are not getting enough thread it can be dangerous.

The max strength of a bolt is achieved when it is threaded 1 1/2 times the bolt diameter.

For sure. Colin from Calgary AutoWorks has been helping me out and supplying me with the right size bolt, etc.

ALSO. Im not sure if im going to be running 15's or 20's in the rear.
I think with 20mm spacers in the rear I wouldnt go much lower than this. But with the 15's id go about an inch or so lower. (Based on wheel well clearance)

                        http://s204.photobucket.com/user/sou...4b4f5.jpg.html

(Go left in the pictures) Right side of the car (3 pictures) is the 20mm, Next 3 pictures are the 15mm spacer. Mind you my alignment is completely fucked so the wheel isnt straight in the slightest.

                        Also

This isnt my car btw. Just a picture I found on google.
I circled the two points that are hitting the wheels. As they jut out the furthest. I was wondering about grinding these down a touch..

                          Re: LF: Help with Coilovers

                          ~UPDATE!~
I wanted to see exactly how close I was to clearing ( although this isnt the BEST FOR SURE method, it still somewhat works )
I put in a piece of corregated cardboard from the top of a case of beer (one of the flaps) and cut some holes in it for the bolts + the hub. .
Guess what. It clears the calipers. SO. I can either grind down the caliper hanger whatever that is? 2mm (id have to get an exact measurement of course with something a little more accurate such as metal washers or something), OR get a few mm wider spacers. . . Any suggestions at the moment other than trying to get a precise measurement of how much space I need? :P
BUT heres the wheel how it fits atm.
I used THIS kind of cardboard - http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...psf6ea3299.jpg
Put it between the spacer and hub with holes cut out like so - http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps54fb3aaf.jpg
Sits like this head on - http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps0789a76e.jpg
Sits like this from the top - http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...psf722f263.jpg
Have this gap inside, theres a bolt straight up there that it is very close to.. - http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...psade11df2.jpg

You can cut that top bolt off... even then it you leave it at that height you can say hello to bacon fenders.
