  • WTB: MK2 GTI 16v, E30, or E24

As the title implies, I'm looking for a running project/summer car.

I'm looking for either a MK2 GTI 16v (preferably black), an E30 coupe (ideally a 325is), or an E24 (preferably a 635CSi). Preferably manual transmissions. Really looking for a good body - no rust or damage that can't easily be fixed.

If anyone knows of something or comes across anything on Kijiji or whatever, let me know!

Edit: I'd need to research them a bit more, but I might also consider a Mercedes 190E 16v... Doubt that would be in my price range though.

635CSi would be fun. This is my buddies E24 M6 back home, with the rare Brilliant White leather... Makes me wet...

      That's hot! I'd love an E24 M6, but I know that I definitely couldn't afford one unfortunately

In the end the project car will rack up the bills faster than you can blink an eye so be VERY careful. Especially stuff in that age rage, general maintenance can add up pretty fast.

Brought it up from Cali, zero rust (obviously) had a dash mat on it's whole life.
Sorry, slightly off topic, but figured I would share this anyways!

Yeah, no doubt. I'm going to be very careful with these. If I can't see some proof that it has been maintained properly then I'll pass on it.

190e 16v will be near impossible to find. I'd buy a mk2 if I were you. Parts are cheap, lots at the junkyard.

Yeah, I figured a 190E would be a long shot but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

I like MK2s and all, but I'm leaning more and more towards an E30... I think that's what I would enjoy the most. But if I come across a MK2 in good shape before an E30 then I'd probably take it.

I'd maybe consider it if I could get a really good deal, but I'd rather stick to one of the others... I know more about them.

                            Re: WTB: MK2 GTI 16v, E30, or E24

E30 will be a money pit. As will the larger BMW's. I owned an '87 iS for about 5 years. It was a cherry from Victoria with 115,000kms on it. Seriously good shape. Think that mattered. No. Anything that went wrong on it was small but expensive. They are very fun cars to own, and drive so well. But if you're just looking for a cheap summer 'project' I'd stay away. Not sure if Patryk will chime in and agree or not either lol. I vote mk2 as well. Easily modded. Look good dumped on air with nice rims. Minimal repair costs.

Just re-read a couple of your comments about the r32. Honestly. I bet the bills of repairing a mkiv chassis will be cheaper than the older luxury cars. I also find the Jetta easier to work on. Not sure if its because I'm older and more experienced now. Or because there's less rust on the bolts ha. But honestly, buy the r32 now or you may regret it.

Hmmm... The thing about the BMWs is that my parents like them too and I'd partially be doing it for them, so they *might* help me pay for some of it. The more I think about it though, the more I think I'm going to hold off on a project for now and save for the R32 and the turbo...
