Looking to borrow a 6-1/4" hole saw. I need to instal a range hood vent, and don't really want to do it with a jigsaw/sawzall. The saw is 60-80$ new, just looking to borrow a couple cuts....

Re: WTBorrow - Hole Saw
drywall/sheathing/siding/back of cabnet (MDF). Not a lot of room for a jigsaw or router to work inside my cabinet, so the hole-saw would be a heck of a lot easier. I put in some 4" ductwork in my garage with a 4-1/4" hole saw last week, through drywall, siding and sheathing, and it was super easy and clean (the drill I have didn't struggle at all, and I too figured it would - 6 1/4 is quite a bit larger though ). I want as clean of a hole as I can get because it will all need to be weather-proofed again.Last edited by stefan; 10-27-2011, 07:15 PM.Stefan

Re: WTBorrow - Hole Saw
I guess an explanation may help.
I have a microwave with range hood that vents back in to the kitchen so the house gets steamy. I need to vent it out doors. The options are to go straight out the back of the unit through the wall, or to go up. From the bit of research I did, it sounds like venting straight out the back of the unit can cause problems later if you want to upgrade or replace the microwave later because the ducting is not standard on the microwaves and they rarely line up with your previous microwave. The alternative is to go straight up in to the small cabinet above the microwave, then bend 90 and go through the wall. This option allows for some flexibilty if I change the microwave (which is quite likely) since there is a small run of duct work that can be re-aligned to different units, where as if you vent out the back, it may not line up and it is hard to fix without moving the hole in the wall. The downside is that you loose a little space in the cabinet.
At any rate, the cabinet is small to turn a jigsaw through. Router may work but would still be quite tight, and I only have a dremel add-on router, which would be working a little to hard to get through all the layers.Last edited by stefan; 10-27-2011, 06:48 PM.Stefan

Re: WTBorrow - Hole Saw
I am happy to hear Rona stopped renting tools, they where a major pita! to rent from, plus I never shop there anyways. I would phone up one of the proper tool rental shops, they should have one.Name: Brent

Re: WTBorrow - Hole Saw
right on. i will swing by today.
For the big hole saws, they only stock 1 or 2 at a time. Creekside is out - going to head to Crowfoot as they apparently have 2.Stefan
