  • LF: 04.5 GLI Transmission....

as the subject says, i'm looking for a 6sp 1.8t transmission for my car, so bummed, but id rather put the cash into this than spend even more money on a new car etc etc etc etc.

side note, if anyone else with the same car has been in this situation, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks a heap

Shitty deal. What happened to the trans?

I'll keep my eyes peeled, what's your shipping range?

If it's the same 02m that's also on 24v VR6's I'm pretty sure there was someone in Lethbridge parting one out

Good call! A little google search suggests that all the GLI 6 speeds are the same code and therefore any one from 2000-2005 could be used!

Dude, such a bummer, started getting wicked 3rd gear whine couple years ago, just went downhill from there, diff knocking and just less than par performance... :(, I'm pretty sure it stemmed from the old shop I took it to after I bought it. And since I don't know a hell of a lot about that biz and I don't have a garage to do work in, I'm not sure how to go about this now. I want to do the clutch and such for sure when it surgery starts too,

If I can find one in canada or in alberta I'd be stoked, but if I found a trusted one in the states maybe I'd go for one of those too.

          Thanks for the help guys

I don't know if this would be worth it but if you could track down a regular 5 speed one, clutch and flywheel could you not use a full version of vagcom/the hex can I think it is to reprogram the coding in the ecu for a 5 speed for the time being?

Not sure what all else you would need to do that, might need cables and shifter box as well? I'm sure George at Tunedub could do the coding for the right price, Bicycleridingman might be able to do it as well...

              Just an idea?

I honestly don't think that you would need to do any coding, the only coding is the difference between the auto vs. manual. It is basically a binary switch which tells the ECU to talk to the TCU or not. Neither the 5 speed or 6 speed have a TCU. The only thing that might be different is the speed sensor for the cluster because of the gearing ratio's but i believe that that reads from the final drive, not the flywheel speed or rpm speed.

You would need new axles, starter and shift linkage.

Good call Sean, IIRC when i needed to replace my speed sensor, it was on the block, not the trans. Good call on the started and axles, didnt even think about that.

If you could pick one up for cheap enough it might be alright for the time being....

thanks alot guys, i think i found one but its out in quebec and when i called the number up there was a definite language barrier...

alternative to the 5 speed idea... sell er as it is to someone who wants to do an engine build and put whatever i get from it into a better condition one.
