  • Cat 5 cable

I'm starting to plan my basement build, and want to do two or three Cat 5 drops from the main panel. I think 300' to 500' would be plenty, and don't want to buy a full 1000' box.

Anybody got some kicking around in their basement/garage?
    Jeff

I have a box not sure how much is left. I think it is just cat5, might be cat5e.

You can get 500' boxes at Home Depot.

Thanks, I'll have a look. Rona was way more expensive than Memory Express for the 1000'.

What about MRO Electronics Supply? I've bought other cable from them for pretty cheap.

shipping might make it more expensive...but have you looked at monoprice.com?
they might have a lot of the finishing panels you might need which might help bring ease the pain of shipping costs

Make sure its at least CAT 5e. I would run CAT 6, but that's just me.

I looked at monoprice. Shipping cost as much as the cable. Have to check Home Depot as suggested, or hope someone has extra from their Reno. Will be 5e as the rest of my network is.

I will check my box and see how much is left when I have a chance. I have to dig out of a huge mess of a room.
