  • WTB: TDI w/auto tranny

I'm on the hunt for a decent TDI with an automatic transmission. Specifically looking for Golfs, Jettas (MKIV or MKV), Jetta Wagons, and am also interested in Beetles. The car MUST HAVE an automatic transmission. Cars with some service records would be preferred.

Please post in this thread or contact me via PM if you have one for sale or know of someone that does.

    Thanks!

Why auto? Because of the 11mm IP?

Any TDi 2003 or below has a crappy auto, I would stay away from those unless you don't mind the replacement costs. Its why when I had to get the wife an auto I got her the 04 Passat with the better tranny. I don't know what exactly the costs are to replace them, but expect a min $3-5k in costs. Thats a big hit, and typically cheaper and easier to go a little higher in model years. Other problem is you replace it and all you have done is stick another ticking time bomb in, they didn't update them to fix the original problems.

04+ ain't perfect either, cam shaft issues + fuel pumps are there gremlins. Although both of those together replaced is probably $1400 and a never have to worry again about them. I don't love PD's, but I think I hate those Auto's in the 1999-2003 even more.

          Just my 2 cents
