Coils are adjustable - you're looking for springs. If you want performance you can get a Shine kit which raises the car a bit. (Ideal suspension setup for a MK4 is ironically raised about 1 inch).

Vr6 isn't that much heavier than a TDI - where did you hear that the VR6 springs will push you up any noticable ammount?

Why do you need MORE ground clearance? This will not prevent you from bottoming out more... I would suggest stiffer springs to keep your car up, not higher springs!

Also I don't think VR6 springs will give you better performance in any way whatsoever.

I am not even sure this is possible, since your stock shocks only have so much range. If you are raising the car then they need to extend further. How much further can they extend before they hit the max? I am not sure.

I read it a few times on freds TDI forums. Want the lift so I have more clearance under my belly. I find these cars are really low, I sometimes ride on rougher roads etc. as well as I had some trouble in that big snow storm we had in april of this year. Got stuck because the snow was too deep, was just plowing then got high centered on the snow. Figure any additional lift will keep my belly and front end that much higher. coils.....springs..are they not coil springs?? Thats what I thought as opposed to leaf springs anyway. I do realize that there are coil overs out there as well. Is this what you refer to when you talk coils? Supposedly they vr6 springs raise a TDI about 3/4" not a lot but......
Do you have a link for some info on this shine kit?

if after doing all of your research you still come to the conclusion that VR6 springs are the answer I have a set available. they only have about 3000km on them. PM me if you are interested.

note. coils refers to coilover suspension:

          as opposed to just springs:

Coils even on their highest setting is still lower than stock, I Think you could raise it up via some wedges, but that wouldn't improve the ride at all

yes what nick said.. upon my researching on vortex.. most coils raised as high as they can are a 1.5" drop from stock so thats why i went and did my suspension anyways since its not that much of a difference from that

if you want more ground clearance, take off that big plastic sound dampener under your car. mine is a mere 2 inches off the ground, thats the lowest point on the car.

if you decide to do that, i will give you $100 for yours, as i cracked mine.

You can also order a shield for the underside of the car, so if you hit stuff it just bounces right off. See this URL:

I was also talking to 03plat, instead of raising his car *shudder* he could just buy armor. Cheaper than springs and won't look as bad.
