  • 16" or 17" Used OEM VW Wheels

I'm looking for some 16" or 17" winter wheels, and I'd like to get some OEM VW rims (or, alternatively, steelies). They must be 5x100 pattern (off of a Golf/Jetta/Beetle) and must be a minimum of 6.5" wide (which is most, if not all). I'm not looking for any rubber.

If you're wanting to get rid of yours or know anyone who is, please let me know. Thanks!

Both guys in Vancouver but they might ship (or you could always drive down and get them). Also they might be a bit too expensive, not sure what you're looking to pay.

Still, a start. I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Right on. Thanks man. I'm not really sure what I'm wanting to pay yet, probably not too big money. Basically I just want something that looks better than steelies and fits on my car (without adapters or spacers, etc.).

I was looking at some Pilot Alpin's today on TireRack, and they seem pretty tasty. However, they only have them in pretty limited sizes... do you think these are the only sizes Michelin makes or just the ones that TireRack carries?

I'm pretty sure I want an H rated winter performance tire because we really don't get too much snow around here, and I'll be crying 'cause I don't have my Pilot Sports when it's dry.

Tirerack only sells normal sizes of normal brands, most people don't go for high performance winter tires.

Holy crap... I've been surfing for prices of wheels and tires for the last few days, and MAN is it expensive to get nice winter wheels and tires!!! I think my idea of nice rims may be dashed unless I can find an incredible deal. Even the rubber is SO much more expensive for 17's as opposed to 16' steelies.

          Boo hoo. :(

Yup, even OEM wheels aren't super cheap.

If you're dead-set against steelies, maybe look for some damaged wheels. If a wheels has lots of damage (kind of like my long beaches) you will get it very cheap. If you're running it in winter you probably don't care too much about the damage or people looking at it up close. You can always get them re-finished later.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I've never thought of that. I've never looked up close at your wheels, so they look fine to me... if I could get wheels in the same condition as yours I'd totally be happy.

from looking at tire trends the replicas are hella cheap.. like 198/wheel which is fine for me.. so maybe i'll get some 16" monte replicas for winter.. cuz on there steelies are like 90/wheel new..

                  Maybe...

I hadn't really set my mind to selling them but I guess I'd entertain an offer on my 2000 16" OEM GTI wheels. They've Goodyear RS-A rubber that's worthless on them right now and are in perfect condition, and I mean perfect. Let me know if you're interested.

Hmmm... do you know which wheel they are... like the name of it? I know there are 16" rims that will not fit my car (I believe the Wolfsberg wheels) because of my brakes. You say the rubber is useless... meaning all gone? That would be fine as I'm not looking for rubber.

I'll certainly think about it and research it a little more when I know the wheel name. Thanks!

I'm just looking around... they look similar to BBS RX's, but they aren't. Blair, master of all things wheel, do you know what these are?

Edit: I'm assuming your avatar is a pic of your wheels right? I think we talked about that at the meet.

                        lazy

Nope not the ones at the meet, although I might consider that. Hell I'm easy. Here's the OEMs on the spec VW photo. Not sure if they'll clear your brakes...

Those look like Montreal I's and according to Vortex they won't fit over my brakes without spacers.

What's the name of the wheels you have on now? I'm trying to find out but they are tricky.

Well I'm considering spending anywhere from $500 to $2000... just depends on the deal and what I end up buying. I love the Monte's though. What kind of rubber are on them and how much tread is left?
