  • Older Laptop

    Toshiba Satelite Pro 4200

    350 OBO

    Celeron 500
    320M Ram
    Floppy
    10/100 no-dongle NIC
    56K modem
    DVD-Rom
    15 inch LCD screen
    11G Harddrive
2 batteries, charger (2 hours or so on a charge)
    Windows 2000, etc,
licenced CA virus scanner/firewall with 1 year
    Serial port for vagcom
Spent 3 years as a backup laptop - probably used 30 hours total.

    Cons:
    - 1 burnt in blue pixel near the top. Not normally noticable.
    - Battery drains over time if you leave it unplugged in your trunk for many days - I just took out the battery if not using it for awhile.
    - Lid hinge is getting a bit flimsy, but it's fine for all normal viewing angles.
    - Soundcard is cheap. Fine for normal windows sounds and video clips but stutters a bit on mp3s.

Laptop is good for someone looking for internet/excel/word/vag stuff with older games.

I used to have this exact laptop. The screen size was great to a laptop of that time period. I really liked mine when I had it.

Did you have any sound issues? I've been told it's just drivers (for either the sound card or the power-manager) but haven't ever found a solution. Laptop speakers suck anyways so it was never a huge bother, but still...

I never had any sound issues other than the fact that overall laptop sound sucks. I dont remember having to replace sound drivers or anything. I could ask my brother if he has any sound issues with it lately. Maybe see if there are some drivers on the Toshiba website.

Does it work fine with external speakers?

This would be a great machine for a student looking for a cheap computer to get by.

That would be cool - it's in the bargain finder next week. It crushed the laptops I compared against at laptop depot/bargain finder for the most part.

Sold! (Mary-lu wouldn't have liked the loose screen).
