  • MKIV Batteries - Crappy Tire et al.

FYI, the battery that Crappy Tire has listed for the 03 MKIV GTI's (and Golf's I presume) is incorrect. I bought one, took it home, removed my old one and said...oh...this doesn't fit. Returned it, they had no other appropriate battery.

This morning, I went to Partsource to have a look (having previously bought one for my 00 GTI), again they spec'd a battery which wouldn't fit. Sidebar: Partsource is a franchise from the folks who run Crappy Tire, so Partsource is a Canadian Co. I asked them for the battery that would fit a 2000 and it's correct.

So, be sure it'll fit, and if you've an 03 (and I presume all the the later MKIV years) pick the 2000 model year battery.

The guys at partsource told me they were owned by bumper-to-bumper now instead of crappy tire.

That said, Auto Value was the cheapest place for a battery for my last car, did you give them a try too?

If I remember correctly the battery was $108 pre-tax. Interesting that you got a different story...

        Costco for Kirkland batteries!

Really cheap, they do the trick, and best of all - the warrenty they have, and costco's return policy.

IIRC, they have a 3 year FULL no-questions asked replacement warrenty, plus another 7 years of pro-rated warrenty.

          I think the mk4 battery is a group 42.

in the early 99-01 model years there were small and large battery boxes. I think the batteries were all the same size though. I'm not sure if the different battery boxes were streamlined as of the 03 MY.

Exact same battery fits both cars.
