yea the 2nd one you posted bart those are cool too they are a double din NAV but not like hardcore nav the screen shows what mine or bart's full MFA would show when connected to a MAV so just arrows and stuff .. neat to have something different tho

ps.. you know one thing i noticed about us calgary dubbers is that we have the crazy hard to get euro mods (thanks to bart, simon and german ebay lol) like look how many of us have euro clusters and stuff like that and people on vortex are just clueless to how to get stuff LOL

Definitely, there are dubbers the world over who would LOVE to be able to get things like the euro clusters and these nav kits.

regarding the am/fm issue (last page)
you will have to buy an adapter for the antenna that shifts the band/tuner so you can receive North American bands
          - that is if it is european radio bands only

post an update of how confirmed buyers and maybe I'll have to get a membership
          put.......put.......

Antennas are that, just a pickup although they can be tuned to pickup certain bands better then others. If the tunner is not "tuned" to the proper band there is no way to get around it as it will filter the rest out. With digital programming now a days I bet you can just change it with vag-com but I have never looked into it.

I was thinking about japanese receivers
              http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...partno=CCSBEUK

but here's the problem that will occur, and hopefully Brent's VAGCom solution works
              http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/How_i...tion50497.html

did some more reading, it would require hardware change in the receiver at worst to get radio working, euro radio is narrower bandwidth, channel spacing is different, de-emphasis is different see link
              http://home.computer.net/~pritch/betterfm.htm

I don't listen to radio too much so it doesn't really matter

i have no idea how hard its to install, i havent done it yet personally, once i return i will install mine and then i can share how it went. it should only take like 5 mins. goto www.vwnavi.com, in the main forum they have a writeup how to install a navi.

folks, you have until tomorrow for anyone else interested.

I've done a cluster, so this is surely easier. Plus, I have Bart to help.

However, no guarantees other than trying my best.

What data is included on the LB CD's we can pick up locally? Any chance we can find out the original vendor of the data? And I don't mean VW/Garmin/MAgellan, I mean like DMTI or who the original provider is? Is the coverage good for all of Canada? The US?

I may be waaaay off base on this, but I think Audi probably uses the same CD's as VW, and they offer nav. However, VW may even have the CD's available for north america too.

Re: GB: VW OEM Navigation System

I mean the cheap CD's that can be bought locally for the Nav unit. I presume they are a VAG product. But the automakers don't create the data, they buy it from specialized companies that I'm familiar with. The data is of pretty variable quality/vintage so my interest is along those lines. IE Good data would be nice, bad data would make the system pretty useless. For example I've seen datasets which represent every street in my alberta hometown of 700 people perfectly and its up to date. Alternatively I've seen data which is 5 years old and misses all of Calgary's new neighbourhoods!
