I’m looking to sell my much loved e34 m5, for the simple reason that I’ve only driven it a handful within the last 6 months.
I’ve owned it for 2 fantastic years, in which it has served me well, and has gotten continuous looks of adoration.
The owner previous to me had owned & daily driven the car since June 2007.
Timely maintenance has kept this fantastic s38 engine running in tip-top condition.
I’ve owned lots of 1980s/90s BMWs, and this is the only one that has brought enjoyment that has been close to on par with that of the e30 m3.
An enjoyable, comfortable, and fast sedan that more than keeps up with modern equivalents. Currently insured & registered in Alberta (as it has been for 7+ years)
General Specifications:
3.6L INLINE 6 CYLINDER (S38B36) ENGINE
5 SPD GETRAG 280 TRANSMISSION, 3.91:1 LSD
LACHS SILBER METALLIC EXTERIOR (RARE - 1 OF 56 MADE IN LACHS SILBER IN 1989, 9 MORE MADE IN 1990)
BLACK EXTENDED LEATHER INTERIOR
Servicing:
Worthy of note, is that the beautiful s38b36 engine was completely rebuilt in 2006 (@ 175,000km) totaling $10k+ in parts (all receipts present).
Oil & Filter changes documented at every 5k since 2007
Huge binder of receipts & records on hand
The car has only received top brand premium oils % fuels its entire life
Additional Items of Note:
• 2 sets of wheels & tires -
• Set of 5 Forged “Throwing Star” Rims with new summer tires
• Set of 5 BBS RC090 Split Rims with new winter tires
• Set of “Turbine Fan” wheel covers (which replace the Throwing Star covers if you’re so inclined)
• Racing Dynamics Carbon Fiber Air Intake (Original Airbox with K&N Panel Filter included)
• Z3m Short Shift gear lever, with illuminated m5 shift knob
• Immaculate black heated leather interior (with black suede headliner)
• 2 passenger rear seating, with central storage
• Perforated m-stiched Tech-2 Steering Wheel (not the nasty North American airbag wheel)
• Chipped ECU with increased rev limiter
• Euro s50b32 timing chain tensioner
• Uprated sway bars
• BMW fire extinguisher mounted under driver’s seat
• Satelite Radio via BMW e90 “Shark Fin” roof mounted antenna
• HID Euro Lights
• Catalytic converters removed (sounds great)
• So much more that I’m forgetting…
General Condition:
Body – 8-9/10
I would give the overall paint & body condition (an overly critical) 8.5-9/10 –
Looking down each side of the car, there are NO dents/scratches. Roof – no dents or scratched. Trunk – No dents or scratches. The hood has 2 very minor dents that PDR would remove. There are no stone chips worthy of mention. Minor rust is starting to form on the bottom of the front doors, but isn’t breaking through & pushing the outside plastic moldings like every single e34 in Alberta. The Throwing Star wheels are in immaculate shape – 9.9/10 (with new tires as mentioned). The winter BBSs are 7/10 with all center caps present (the winters have about 500km on them). I’ve ordered replacement ballasts & bulbs for the HIDs, as they seems to blink a little since being parked. Despite the car being winter driven each year, the body is better than 95% of e34s on the road today.
Engine/Gearbox/Diff – 9/10
These items are what makes the car a true M-car. The engine has been impeccably maintained, and blows no smoke, and burns none of its golden oil. The car pulls fantastically in each gear, and sounds amazing thanks to the echo/drone from the rare Racing Dynamics airbox. Gearbox/Clutch are perfect. The limited slip differential is tight, and makes the car come alive. As mentioned, I haven’t had time to drive the car in the last number of months. Before re-registering it 2 weeks ago, I had it inspected at Nurburgring. Items noted were a weep (that doesn’t drip) from the oil pan gasket, worn engine mounts, and a suspected CV joint on the way out. I ordered all of these immediately, and should have them within the coming days. If I don’t get interest in the car, I’ll gladly keep it and install these. Once these are in, this section is certainly 10/10.
Chassis – 7/10
The original (and sometimes troublesome) self-leveling suspension has long since been replaced with a Bilstein and H&R Spring combo. I suspect that the car needs upper front control arm bushings, which are about $35 each. It isn’t like me to not replace these immediately upon suspicion, but I’ve just been too busy with work and other hobbies. These will possibly be ordered prior to sale. I have lots of miscellaneous new/used parts which will accompany the sale of the car.
Overall, this is a fantastically presentable example of a classic BMW, which is ready to be enjoyed. The price is very competitive, given that others are going for $12-13k.
Please, no timewasters offering money/trades via txts without seeing the car. I’ve communicated clearly, and I’d appreciate the same courtesy in return.
I’m open to reasonable offers, and will not respond to “What’s you’re lowest price, guy?”.
$9,500obo
Open to reasonable offers, as I want to get into something newer!
