This looks awesome. I was going to try and get a westfalia hitch for my Passat wagon last summer but as you say, they get expensive. If you'd be in to doing another one-off for a Passat, I may be interested.

A friend here at work is doing one for a B5 Passat, The design looks very similar, maybe a couple tweaks, I'll get him to document what he does and we can come up with Passat design.

I'm curious how the clearance is with your S-line and the bikes when pulling in or out of a steep parking lot. Have you considered making some of these as well? I would think this would improve clearance if you had a 2 or 4 bike "tray style" rack instead of the 2-arm system.

I have a 2 bike rack and it does touch down when going straight out the driveway, the rack itself has a bit of rise to it, if need be the vertical receiver itself could be welded with some angle made into it.
