These will fit in anything. Just take out your old knob AND the plastic frame that is around the bottom of the boot. Then remove the plastic frame, it is stapled together. Remove the frame from the new shift knob - I am 95% sure these knobs are S-Line A4 knobs, so the fit perfectly in an A4. Take the old plastic from and place it under the boot of your new knob and attach it somehow - new staples, or glue, or whatever. Then put it back in! The metal clamp that you must squeeze at the top of the knob is what is used to keep the knob in place permanently, and unfortunately it is a one time use kinda thing. If you do mess up I know tie straps work great as well. I bought a RS4 knob, put it in my A4, and used my A4 knob, and put that in my GTI, then sold the old GTI knob. Then I got that special golf edition knob for cheap, put that into the GTI, and sold the A4 knob. And then I sold my GTI :( I sure miss it!
The R is in the right place for a 5 speed VW so I don't know what everyone is getting on about. I figured about the same to make it fit around the old plastic base piece. I just use the crimp rights that they sell for air hoses. They work exactly the same as the oem ring and are dirt cheap, but yes they are a one time use.

I was just looking at these pics again, is my memory off or will this one sit up higher than a stock VW mk4 one?
