  • Skid plate for MK4

Not sure if this has ever been posted, but i'm looking for an Evo Skid Plate for a 2002 Golf 2.0L. I know these are hard to come by used because nodoby ever wants to get rid of theirs, but does anyone know the cheapest place to get them? Concept used to be $300 but now I heard they are $370. Anybody know a good place to buy this for a reasonably low price? Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

These are lot cheaper: http://www.defender-tech.com/ and should be just as good.

I doubt you will get the Evo any cheaper as that is what they sell them for direct: http://www.evolutionimport.com/Atlas...-00001-001.htm

I haven't heard about the defender plates but I would look into them before you buy. I know a lot of people with the evos who like them. I think George at tunedub sells and installs them so you might want to contact him for a price. If you are a paid member you also get a discount at C1.

Money well spent. There isn't much of a difference in price between shops or C1.

The Defender is made in Ontario. No cross border fees. Tons of people have them. They work just as well.

IMO, for 60% the cost of the EVO one, you'd be crazy not to go this route.

Some people like expensive, some people like bang for their bucks.

whoa! i haven't ever seen the defender-tech plate. that things awesome for the price. plus, it's made of steel. if you're LOW, and hit something, this plate would just dent or bend instead of potentially cracking like an aluminum plate would. pretty cool.

The EVO plates are made in BC, so no cross boarder shipping either.

I know a couple people that can attest to the fact that you can hit that aluminum plate as hard as you want and it won't crack, steel on the other hand rusts. There are pluses and minuses of both but my money (and experience) is on the aluminum one.

They are hot dip galvanized, they will never rust. It is what we normally use on Land Rover for rust proofing. 50 years of hard off road use and the galvy bits still look new. The skid plate on a car will be fine.

I always laugh at how people defend car parts so strongly. Usually ones they have bought in an attempt to justify the money they spent.

I have an Evo plate on my Golf. Love it. But if there is a cheaper option that is just as good, I'll buy it. They are just car parts....
