not to much of a pain : 3 hours work or so. Yes they will work fine with stock shocks.

Does the knob come with the bit to locate the top of the boot into or is that a part of the boot itself. If it does then ill take it, (as long as its in good condition!)

it is in very good condition. it is sitting in the box that i used to replace the shifter with right now. no idea if it has the bit for the top boot. its 20 bucks, if ya want it take it.
