  • Need your opinion (the right vdub)

    Hey everyone,

I've been away from the vdub scene for a while now, and I'm starting to get that itch....so I'm thinking about getting back in (I've learned from my mistakes, and this time - I'm doing things the right way: quality coilovers, proper wheels, mostly OEM parts...and so on)

    Here is what I'm thinking:

I'm looking to spend around $5000-6000 (no more than 6g's) on a used MK4.; something decent that I can work with.

I need your opinion/input on what things to look for and what would be my best choice (I know there quite a few members here who are very knowledgeable, so I look forward to hearing your honest opinion)

After spending some time on kijiji I have narrowed down to these choices:

    2003 VW Jetta GLS Wagon

    Asking Price - $6,995.00
    Year - 2003
    Kilometers - 126067
    Transmission - Manual

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2002 Volkswagen Golf GL 2.0 Hatchback

    Asking Price - $5,700.00
    Year - 2002
    Kilometers - 152000
    Transmission - Manual

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2001 Volkswagen GTI

    Asking Price - $4,950.00
    Year - 2001
    Kilometers - 240000
    Transmission - Manual

Thank you for your time; it's greatly appreciated!!!

I would have to say go for the wagon, and that is just based on the fact that I want one! haha
I sold my mk4 because I missed my mk2, but now Im thinking of replacing my daily with a mk4 jetta wagon, there is just that "cool" factor about them once they have some nice wheels and a clean stance, and the fact that not to many people do them up.

And the most important factor...Think of how many hoe's you can fit in a wagon! haha

depends on what you wanna do with the vehicle... are you gonna wanna go fast?? cause the 2.0 looks to be pretty nice for the price but its a 2.0? unless u wanna drop the $$ for power adders.. the gti looks nice but looks like its been beat to hell. and the wagon...do you really need a wagon??

My vote is for the Golf GL. From a read of all the ads and a once over of the pictures... it definitely is in the best shape IMO. Besides... I have a set of BBS RCs I might be convinced to let go to get your mods started.

But Vdublicious is right... do you want a 2.0?

If you can swing a slightly higher budget (6000-7500), you could probably pick up a GTI or Jetta 1.8t with half decent mileage. I know you say no more than 6gs.. but you'd probably be better off saving a little longer before picking one up.

Re: Need your opinion (the right vdub)

Sorry for not being able to respond sooner. Had a crazy busy week.

Thanks a lot for your input guys. Appreciate it!

Yea, that 2dr 2.0 golf that looks like in the best shape, well.... I went to see it on Sunday. Lets put it this way: the only thing that I really liked was the wheels (LB's) and that's about it. The clutch was about as smooth as the Calgary roads and the motor was covered with oil. Anyway...needless to say I've seen enough.

The wagon was sold before I could see it, and that GTI does have a bit too many KM's...as some of you have pointed out - it's been beat to hell.

BUT, I did find another wagon today which I'm going to see. It's a 2.0 which I'm ok with.

Once again, thanks for the comments. I really appreciate it.

honestly I would rock a 2L as a daily, nothing wrong with a simple motor.
