  • Door microswitch

I mentioned in the "lovin this cold weather" thread that my car thinks the drivers door is open on the first day it was really cold last week. I've been through the 'tex and a few other sites, tried the spray a can of contact cleaner into the mechanism fix (didn't work), and have come to the conclusion that I need to replace the switch.

Tried Active Electronics which is near my shop, but they don't stock the sealed switch and I would have to order at least 50 @ $15 each to get it. Anyone know where else to get em?

    Thanks.

    Re: Door microswitch

I have the reverse problem. The door never thinks that it is open. When I searched on Vortex, they talked about bad solder joints on the microswitch. When it warms up, I am going to resolder the joints.

Digikey.ca will have one type of switch you need or the other.

        Thanks Stonewall.

The switch is $8.45, plus shipping I assume. Does anyone else need one while I'm at it? Price break is at 25, so I doubt they would be any cheaper.

            I just did this......

            What a fun job.....

The stock switch was busted. The shaft was completely missing.

            http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.p...7&postcount=93

I used that switch. It works well and looks like a quality switch, but did require slotting of the mounting holes. Probably a good three hour job. One caveat, shipping was a bit pricey from Allied...

I will take 2, I have been meaning to order them anyways. Plus if the order is under $30 there is an extra charge.

I wasn't sure if there would be any interest in these or not. I will wait until next wednesday to place the order (I'm going away for a few days over the weekend or I would do it then).

I also have the triple-square bits to get the lock unit out on order. Might be worth having a get together to fix locks in the near future.

Finally did the fix today. The original switch had the plunger broken off or worn down. Not too hard a job, there are good DIYs on the Vortex.
