Re: Anyone up for putting a Zerostart in my GTI?

If anyone needs a heater, I have a 1000 W Zerostart in the garage taking up space. Used in my truck for one season. $30.

Rob AKA cdnalpina graciously took time out his sunday to get me set up, and on the coldest day of the year so far, we couldn't have done this in august, hey Rob?

      ha ha, thanks again!

thanks also to Red90 for the hassle free deal above.

OK guys, just where did you but your zerostarts from. I checked two canadian tire stores in the south today one sold zerostart but only the 250w and the other had no idea what it was. quite annoying. apparently, or so the guys said, all CT stores are totally independant and stock whatever they want so not guarantee its at two sotres

Anyone care to say exactly where they bought it ?

hmm i could call in there on my way down to bonnybrook

I looked on Greggs web site and found this

            PART NO.---WATTS--VOLTS
            330-5004----2250-----120
            330-5006----1000-----240
            330-5007----1500-----240
            330-5008----2250-----240

The 1000w is 240v? what use is that here? i guess this is not for your avergage car park plugin?

anyone got an idea if this is right or not?

LOL, Im actually at Glenmore now.

I would call them and explain what youre using it for - I dont have the number in front of me, but the one you need is 120v, not 240... 1500 watts... or 1000w, if you prefer.

Re: Anyone up for putting a Zerostart in my GTI?

You MUST make sure you buy one without a check valve! If you really can't find one just order one from tdiheaters.com.
That being said it is important to actually use it. After the jetta sat all weekend the oil was so thick that it didn't want to start this morning. Left it plugged in all day (overkill) got home and she fired right up.

well i cant be bothered driving around at night in these temperature so TDIheaters is a great idea.

Cant understand why one of our many dealers on here is making these up n selling them themselves, sounds like a nice gig.

cdnalpina and I got the 330-8003 on page Q10 (1500W) However it will pull 15A by itself. If you get the 330-8002 (1000W) you may be able to add a battery pad (page Q14, part# 786589-55856).

The 330-8003 does have a checkvalve but it takes 2 seconds to remove it. Just jab a screwdriver in the inlet and pop out the black plastic piece and the ball.

I put mine on a heavy duty outdoor timer ($15 at Canadian Tire, http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...se%2BTimer.jsp). I have it go on 3 hours before I leave the house. Plenty warm.

BTW I believe the TDIheater kit only comes with a 750W smallbody tank.

what do you guys think of putting water pipe insulation around the lines that run to the zerostart?

i was getting some of them out to do the front grill mod with them when I thought it may be of use there as well...

Also, with my wagon, it has the 1000w heater installed. After 3 hours, the temp is in the fine lines, and within a few blocks, its at operating temp and stays there

With the Golf, and a 1500w heater, after 3 hours, the temps is still on the L side, and takes a bit for it even to get to about 70, maybe hits operating temp, but often falls after a while...

                            What am I missing here?

poor circulation? kinked pipes? did you take the non return valve out properly?

^ might be the poor circulation, because all the others you mentioned arent issues... the unit I bought does not have the check valve...
