Never understood why people get the same size tire for two different width wheels but I guess that is besides the point. I have a soft spot for those wheels, good luck with the sale!

You use a wider wheel at the rear because of quattro? Wouldn't you want a wider wheel in the front if you were doing it for quattro?

I think he means he runs the same size tires on staggered wheels because of quattro. Ideally, you shouldnt be running staggered setup's with quattro or haldex AWD systems. When you do run staggered, you want to make sure the rolling diameter is as close as possible to being the same front and back. Running the same size tires will give you the same rolling diameter as its only the sidewall of the tire that stretches.

Haldex allows up to 4% difference in rolling diameter. Not sure about Quattro (Torsen)

Nailed it Pat. They say within 3%, but I think thats some number someone made up in their head and it stuck for some reason

haha reading fail, I totally skimmed over the tire size comment.

Oh cool, I had always thought that if you were running a staggered setup you would have to compensate the wider wheels with different tires to try and match the rotation as close as possible. IE - 8.5x19 (235/35/19) and 9.5x19 (265/30/19). So you're saying that it should actually be 235/35 all around?

When I had staggered wheels I did it so I could rotate the tires. Since the wheels are different widths you can't rotate them. FWD car, front tires wear out, just swap em to the back.

So did you actually swap tires as in re-mount them each season, or did you run the wider tires in the front???
