  • Marker "clicking" sound won't stop..ALSO..coolant temp on cold side

My car decided that it hated me yesterday.

    First off:
-When I go to change lanes and turn on my marker lights, the marker light sound does not turn off after I have turned it off. The sound continues to "click" like It would when the marker is on. I checked to see if the marker lights blink while it makes the sound, but they do not. The "clicking" sound at times goes slow like it normally sounds, but sometimes it "clicks" rapidly.

    What can this be?

    Secondly:

    - I noticed my engine temperature guage has been acting up. At times it will fall slightly on the cold side but it would correct itself shortly after. I didnt think much of it. Then as I was driving last night, I looked down at the temp gauge and it was completely on the cold side. I pulled over to check it out, but the coolant was good and the cap was on tightly. I also touched the intake mani and it was only slightly warm (keep in mind I was already driving for 15-20 min). I then got back into my car and started it up again and it contined to stay where it was. 1 minute later, as im staring at the gauge, it shoots up to normal opertaing temp very quickly....kinda like a boost guage. I also noticed that the car is driving a little different. Its kinda slugish

What the hell is going on?

    HELP!

Per your first problem, it's either your hazard switch or your turn signal stalk. The turn signals use the hazard switch as the relay. I had the same problem when I bought my jetta, thought it trned out it wasn't the hazard switch. The actual contacts in the turn signal switch stick somehow, I actually took my switch stalk apart and cleaned all the contacts and never had a problem since.

Sorry I can't help with the coolant problem.

for the first problem, i had it

you gotta take your steering column cover off and find your signal wires.
spray some electrical cleaner in there then get a air compressor and dry it out

i took it to autobaun and it took them about 5 minutes to fix.

Your second problem sounds like either the temp gauge or the temp sensor, I had the same problem with my GTI when I first got it and it was the temp sensor.

I was told on the vortex that their was a re-call on the hazard switch and that it may be cause of the continued clicking.

Did anyone know that their was a re-call on the hazard switch?

That recall is from 2004, and the affected vehicles are 2000-2002.

Do you have the latest temp sensors? There have been at least a couple of revised parts.

Im not sure, I have never had to switch my temp sensor. Up until this week, this car has never acted up on me.

Just park it back in the garage. You have clearly over driven your vehicle for the year.

Don't worry. It will be parked very soon. Im kinda suprised that its still on the streets to be honest.

I think there was a lengthy post about the switch recall on here if you search. May give you some more info.

I have/had the same problem with the signal click your having. I was told this wasnt a huge issue and that it didnt need to be fixed immediatly.
I booked it into northland roughly 2 months after I had this problem. It stopped shortly before it was scheduled in.

Basically, its a problem that can correct itself because I dont have that problem anymore (atleast it hasnt happened it like 3 months).

I have the coolent gauge problem as well. It wont regsiter then all of a sudden it shoots back up to normal. I'm not to worried about it as long as the idiot light or the dummy bell doesent work off the same sensor you should be all right. Don't forget tho if they dont and you run with out coolent ie. your pump breaks or it all leaks out your engine wont last much more past a couple hundred clicks.
