  • Car Accident - Other guy charged w/ Running Red Light

    Hi Guys,

    So some moron ran a red light this morning, and I nailed him. My front drivers side, hit his passenger side. He was charged with running a red light, and forgetting his drivers license. My insurance said to go to Enterprise and get a car, and it'll be covered by them. Probably have to get some piece of sh!t Dodge or something

    My drivers side front quarterpanel, headlight, hood, valence, & bumper are toast. Drivetrain internals look to be fine.. from what i can tell. Looks to be the exterior body parts only.

    Questions.
    If one headlight is broken, is it reasonable for me to upgrade to better headlights? ie; inquire the replacement cost, and possibly pay the difference? Thoughts on carbon fibre hood (my car is reflex silver)? I only bring it up as a piece of convo at this point, as I'm more against, than for it.

    Body shop suggestions? I'd like to have my car in time for my vacation (Dec 10 - Jan 5, as I'm going on a big roadtrip). I've had success with my old car (1995 corolla) at Arrow Car Star in Inglewood, but understandably I'm considerably more anal about this car.

    Thanks in advance!

      Sounds like an awesome time to convert it to a JTI. I had a long fight to get my car fixed, Im changing it up a fair bit at Continental Autobody. Hopefully it all turns out well for both of us

              Use this opportunity to get some body mods done. I say shave your sidemarkers, get a badgeless grill, fill your nood notch and bumper notch.

              As for the headlights

              You can find something much better than that.

                Generally, its difficult to upgrade, and pay the difference, insurance companies tend to be very wary of this, they also won't even let you buy parts and repair it yourself, even if it'd save them the labour.

                The only real way I think this would work is if you and the guy settle outside his insurance.

                  I've seen some good looking JTi's from GTI's.. but I'm not going to sacrifice a 337 for one, as well Jetta's have primitive lights compared to the Golf.. hi/lo use shared bulb etc;

                  get a badgeless grill, fill your nood notch and bumper notch.
                  I like the idea on a regular GTi.. although i would also shave the indicators and the centre portions of the rub strips. Again I don't want to sacrifice a 337 for it.

                  As far as those lights, they are really the only external mod I'll do to the car. I like the 'stock'ish'- look, with just the subtle light upgrade. The type of light, is a personal taste thing, and although not radical, I can understand people not feeling it. I'm open to suggestions here as well.

                  If I were to drop money on it, it would be to go BT, and all the necessary upgrades that complete that package. In this case, the accident wasn't severe enough to be concerned with the engine etc;

                        Loc is such a great guy. We started talking cars... well, mostly about my R32. Anyhow, we started talking about brakes and whether or not Porsche brakes would fit on it. I said yes and that I was perhaps considering upgrading to Brembo's down the road. To make a long story short... Loc told me that if I got the brakes to let him know. As he's in the shop every Saturday and there is not much going on... he personally invited me to bring my car down if I ever needed to do some work on it. He said, come on down... I'll get you set up on the hoist and you can just use whatever you need in the shop while he's there in the office.

                        Now... how's that for customer service?!

                          Glad to hear you are ok, sounds like you made of better then my accident where someone ran a red light. I would suggest getting a lawyer at the first sign of any pain or the insurance company jerking you around. In my experience it worth paying a lawyer just to get them out of your hair.

                            I've felt fine since the accident, but havent done much. I have a few soccer field times, couple days at the hill & a hockey game within the next week, so that'll be the test I think.

                            The adjuster appears to be behind though. Hasn't been in contact, and my broker advised of the same. So my car just sits at Boris CCC shop. If no word by end of day monday, I'll ask for another adjuster, as I need the work started so I get my car by Dec 10th for a big roadtrip.
